At the very beginning of our Racing To Relate journey we were fortunate to know this talented young Photographer and First Class Hons graduate of Psychology and Media Communications.. who also happened to be a terrific young horsewoman, riding out and sales prep for Malcolm Bastard.  Naomi kindly worked with us to produce a series of images to help us capture the essence of the Thoroughbred Human relationship during and beyond their racing careers.  That was before her Godolphin Flying Start traineeship and onwards and upwards to the USA to your screens, now as on-air analyst and producer at the Maryland Jockey Club.   And if you happened to be at the Breeders Cup this year, then literally upwards…in a hot air balloon over Del Mar !

We use this horse and handler at Tattersalls sales image that Naomi captured a lot throughout our media. It says a lot for us.  That question of next career and the optimism we all have to make each ‘next career’ step one that is framed by the whole racing industry to ensure it has Thoroughbred welfare at the heart of it.  There are considerable efforts worldwide in the Thoroughbred industry towards life long welfare for their horses and so many effective initiatives in place to assist these transitions across the globe.  Our particular sector focuses on the continuation of the Thoroughbred / Human relationship in next careers helping people in Equine Assisted (or we should say ‘Thoroughbred Assisted…’) Services.  The horse in the image looks magnificent and ready for anything.  We are part of a global positive movement to make sure that trust of the horse is met with sound, evidenced based next career options.

The second image shows a veteran within a herd of Thoroughbred broodmares.  This is an area we are really keen to explore also, the ‘third’ career for a female Thoroughbred racehorse, from track to stud to us.  An often overlooked area of aftercare, retired broodmares have a lot to offer, especially to EAS programs that work clients with horses in a ‘herd’ context.  We look forward to bringing you all of these projects as we develop our platform.
